02/24/14 Live In Jersey City

Ever since it was announced that the all-new Ms. Marvel would be set in Jersey City, JC natives have been asking me, “When are you coming to town to do an event?” The answer is, three weeks from now! I’ll be at Word Bookstore (JC branch) with your favorite comics journalist, Heidi Macdonald, answering your questions about Ms. Marvel, Alif the Unseen, life, the universe, and everything. Click the link embedded in the title for details.

Coming In April: Alif The Unseen, The Paperback

Illustrations. Interviews. A GLOSSARY! This is possibly the best paperback edition of anything, ever. Pre-order it from Amazon, or (preferably!) from your local independent bookstore.

Monday! Me! Sherman Alexie!

If you’re in Seattle (or its environs) and you’re looking for something to do Monday night (February 11), look no further: Sherman Alexie and I will be at Elliott Bay Books at 7pm for your amusement. (And also to accept our Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association Awards.) I imagine there will be chatting and reading and possibly signing. The event is free, so bring your friends.

Alif Makes NYT Notable Books List

This? Awesome.

100 Notable Books of 2012.

And thanks to alphabetization by title, Alif the Unseen is listed first. Thank you, alphabet.

And thank you, scions of the internet. The conversations I’ve had online over the years, involving people from the furthest reaches of the planet, have had a profound impact on the writing of this book, which deals in no small part with the new communities we are making for ourselves in this strange post-fictional world. I never imagined a novel as eclectic and wide-ranging as this one, with its genie protagonists and computer allegories and veiled heroines, would get the kind of attention it has gotten. I’m flattered and so so pleased.
